Jennifer Thomason, community director for Walk America/March of Dimes, hosted a rally on Tuesday night at Mr. G’s to raise awareness and get people motivated for the future walk that will take place in Demopolis.
The event was organized with an effort to get people involved in the Walk America/March of Dimes program.
“We’re going to watch some videos of a walk and the National Ambassador Child, which is normally a child that is born premature or with disabilities,” Thomason said.
“There’s four children here that were born either prematurely or with disabilities and three of them have been previous Ambassador Childs.
“Maggie is our Ambassador Child this year.
She was born weighing under one pound and it’s a very touching story.
Really we’re just trying to get everybody motivated with stories and we’re going to have a few door prizes.
We’re also having a drawing for a fish-cooker that was donated by Therma-Gas.”
The walk will be on Sept. 25 at the Sportsplex.
Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. and the walk will take place at 10 a.m.
Ronnie Antone is the Walk America Chair and Kim Townsend and Kay Parten serve as committee members.
