DEMOPOLIS – A juvenile has been arrested for rape in an attack on another juvenile.

Though Demopolis police reported the two strong-armed rapes last week, Public Safety Director Jeff Manuel said the rapes are not cause for public alarm.

“One was a juvenile and one was a mental health patient,” he said.

The juvenile, he said, was reportedly raped by another juvenile.

“Charges have been filed and an arrest has been made,” Manuel said. He said any further information would have to come from Marengo County district attorney Greg Griggers. Griggers was out of the office Wednesday.

The second rape, involving the mental health patient, after further investigation was deemed unfounded, Manuel said.

“Several different people were named as suspects in just a few hours, and the family isn’t even sure if something happened,” he said.
