DEMOPOLIS – A Demopolis Times forum scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled due a lack of interest from candidates.
Although Mike Grayson challenged Cecil Williamson to a public debate, she has declined to participate in the forum.
“I feel like I can better spend my time,” she said. “If anyone has questions they’d like to ask me they can contact me either day or night.”
Council candidate Freddie Charleston, through his sister-in-law Terry,
also declined to participate in another forum.
“What we were hoping to do was provide the voters with an opportunity to make an informed decision about who will lead the city for the next four years,” said Times Publisher Jonathan McElvy.
“I guess the voters are the real losers when something like this happens,” he said.
McElvy said he had received very positive response from the last forum the paper co-hosted with WAKA TV.
“We had an overwhelming response and were asked if we’d consider hosting a run-off debate,” he said. “We were happy to attempt it.”
