Book Club forming at library

The Demopolis Library already welcomes Demopolites to come in, relax and read, but the Friends of the Demopolis Library want to take that a step further and offer a book club for resident to read and discuss books, and possibly even make suggestions for books they would like to see at the Library.
“The Friends of the Demopolis Library are our partner organization. They support us financially, help us with programming and help of that nature,” Librarian Lindsey Gardner said.
The goal of the book club, she said, was to offer something to area adults.
“The goal is to one, appeal to a different demographic than typically comes in here, and two, get people interested in the library,” Gardner said.
She admitted there are several reading or study clubs in Demopolis, but said this program would be different.
“This will be a more modern kind of group and will be open to anyone,” she said. “This doesn’t have a real membership kind of thing, if you want to come one month but don’t like the book they’re reading the next month, then you don’t come the next month.”
The library will play as supporting role, but once the group is organized the members will decide what books to read and discuss, when and how often to meet, and other crucial decisions.
“It will be a very flexible group,” Gardner said.
An organizational meeting will be scheduled for sometime in October.
