LINDEN – A Linden man is in the hospital in unknown condition following a shooting Sunday.
James Aldridge was shot in the stomach during an altercation that occurred on Stough Lane in Linden.
“Aldridge told officers that Charles Witherspoon Jr. was the man who shot him,” a police report stated.
Sgt. Scott McClure of the Linden Police Department said Witherspoon had confessed to the shooting, but said he would not say what led to the shooting.
“We know they got into an altercation, but we don’t know what about,” McClure said.
Aldridge was taken to Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital, but was later transferred to DCH in Tuscaloosa.
“I haven’t heard any updates since then,” McClure said.
Witherspoon, 22, was arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree assault. He has been released on bond.
