DEMOPOLIS – A search for a missing Tuscaloosa County man ended about 8 p.m. Thursday with the discovery of his body in the Tomb igbee River.
The body of Wallace Woodrow Griffin, 70, was discovered in Culpepper’s Slough, said Public Safety Director Jeff Manuel.
Rescuers had earlier in the day located Griffin’s boat and the hat he was wearing in the slough.
Demopolis police, assisted by the Demopolis Fire Department, Sumter County Rescue, Choctaw County Rescue, the Corps of Engineers and the Alabama Marine Police after the man was reported missing by relatives.
“The guy was fishing and didn’t come back,” said Manuel.
“It’s not a real swampy area and it’s a fairly open area,” Manuel said.
The man had been fishing alone. Manuel did say the family owned a fishing cabin at Runaway Branch II.
