Robert K. Washburn, 34, of Newbern, passed on Oct. 31, 2004 from an automobile accident in Hale County. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro, with Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel. In lieu of flowers and memorials, send memorials to the Alabama Sheriffs Boys Ranch.

Irma Tucker Smith

Irma Tucker Smith, 66, of Marion, passed on Oct. 30, 2004. Graveside services were held on Monday, Nov. 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Marion, with the Rev. John Mount officiating. Visitations were held on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel. She is survived by two daughters, Kaye Fisher of Tuscaloosa and Patty Gore of Clanton, one son, Harvey Plummer of Barnville, Ga., two sisters, Ellen Glasgow of Millbrook and Jinnie Calhoun of Greensboro, one brother, Ward Tucker Jr. of Marion, six grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Marguerite Evelyn Ballard

Marguerite Evelyn Ballard, 98, a native of Marengo county and a resident of Selma, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at Vaughn Regional Medical Center in Selma. Mrs. Ballard was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, James G. “Lamar” Ballard of Linden, and Kimbrough Ballard of Selma, one daughter, Linda Heath of Jackson, one sister, Willie Flora Dixon of Providence, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer G. Ballard, a son, Cedric G. Ballard, and a daughter, Jeanette Lassiter. Funeral services were held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, with the Rev. Glen Smith officiating. Interment followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Dixon Mills. Active pallbearers were Bruce Cook, Llyron Gandy, Pat Vice, Jerry Vice, Albert Glass and Dudley Glass. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden was in charge of all arrangements.
