EUTAW – The Greene County Commission has declared November 19-25 National Farm-City Week.
American farmers and ranchers help to feed the world by producing a bounty of agricultural products. In order to make this happen, they rely on the partnership of urban and suburban communities to supply, sell and deliver the products across the country and around the world. This partnership has contributed to the health and well being of our country as well as strengthening he economy.
During National Farm-City Week all who are employed in the farming and ranching field will be recognized. Agriculture employs more than 24 million workers. Along with farmers and ranchers there are workers employed as shippers, processors, marketers, retailers, truck drivers, inspectors and many other jobs. These employees contribute more than $1.3 trillion to our gross domestic product. The agriculture industry provides us with food and clothing as well as fuel for our energy needs. There are always new opportunities for work in the industry, which will continue to play a vital role in our nation’s future.
Farm-City helps to maintain and improve the nation’s food and fiber supply and also contributes to a better quality of life for limitless citizens.
During this week of recognition, as families gather for the holiday, we count our blessings that this partnership has done to improve the quality of our lives.
