Candlelight Evening is Thursday, Dec. 2, from 5:30-8 p.m. during Demopolis’ Christmas on the River Week. Admission is $3 per person, with ages 11 and under admitted free. John Essex High School will have PTO meeting on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria. All parents are urged to attend this important meeting.

The West Alabama Christmas parade will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Tuscaloosa. This event is a joint venture endorsed by the City of Tuscaloosa, the City of Northport and Tuscaloosa County. "Magical Spell of Christmas" is the theme for this years’ parade. The West Alabama Christmas Parade will be coordinated by the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority again this year.

The Greater Greensboro Chamber of Commerce is getting out the word about our activities for Christmas season. On Friday, Dec. 10, businesses downtown will have Christmas Open House from 5-8 p.m. Santa Claus will be downtown at Outsidein and will also be available for pictures with children.

The Greensboro Christmas Parade will begin at 11:00 A.M. at Piggly Wiggly. The parade will travel to Main Street and turn left onto Tuscaloosa Street and left again onto State Street. The parade will disburse somewhere in the area of NAPA Auto Parts and Jimmy’s Food Mart. Our local National Guard unit has been selected to be our Grand Marshall group. Businesses, churches, schools, and clubs are encouraged to participate. Floats, decorated vehicles, antique vehicles, golf carts, and horses are welcomed. Get your tickes now for the MLT Christmas Tour of Homes. This tour will include the Swain Home, the Broome Home and the Roberts’ Home and possibly a fourth home. The Magnolia Grove Foundation sponsors a holiday open house on Sunday, Dec. 12, from 1-3 p.m. at Magnolia Grove in Greensboro. Many people have family members who once attended and are buried at the Old Spring Hill Methodist Church. The cost of upkeep is very high. Many of our older, loyal benefactors have died. This has resulted in a lack of funds, which have been donated. Please enable us to have the funds needed to ensure that the proper maintenance of the property continues. Remember many of your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and other relatives once attended the church and are buried here. Services at the church are on the first and third Sunday of every month at 5 p.m.
