Lee leads Lady Tigers to win

LIVINGSTON — Veronica Lee scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, as West Alabama won 69-63 over Delta State (5-3) on Saturday in Livingston, Ala.

Delta State shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the floor in the first half en route to a 38-37 halftime advantage over West Alabama. The Tigers battled back and outscored DSU 32-25 in the second half for the six-point victory. Delta State finished the game with 23 turnovers, while UWA had 25 on the night.

Yolanda Thomas had 13 points and seven rebounds to go along with a game-high five blocks for the Tigers. UWA’s Jessica Thompson scored 10 points, while Heather Flannagan added eight points. Ashton Washington had six points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Jennifer Rushing scored 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds for DSU. Jennifer Rushing also added 18 points, while Wyconda Thomas and Lawanda Stewart finished with eight points each.

West Alabama improves to 6-5 on the season and resumes action on Jan. 3 when they travel to face William Carey at 5:30 p.m.
