Details were still unclear at press time Tuesday evening about the death of a Demopolis native.

Michael Christopher Walsh, 21, was killed in a hotel off West Oxmoor Road in Birmingham late Monday night, but spokesmen for both the Birmingham Police Department and the Homewood Police Department could not provide information about the homicide.

“I do know there was a stabbing and a homicide at a hotel, but I think Homewood handled the case,” said a spokesman at the Birmingham North Precinct.

A spokesman for the Homewood Police said the case was handled by Birmingham Police.

Most reports say Walsh’s girlfriend is suspected of stabbing Walsh to death, but it was unclear if she has been arrested and charged in the homicide.

Visitation will be held at the chapel of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home tonight from 6-8. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Kidd-Robbins Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Though an official list of survivors was not available from Kidd-Robbins at press time, Walsh is survived by his father, Mike Marsh of Demopolis; his mother Christy, of Montevallo; aunt and uncle Mike and Jane O’Neal of Demopolis; and aunt and uncle Jim and Penny Stanford of Demopolis.
