A Greene County grand jury indictment led to the arrest of Brandon Jermaine Banks on charges of negligent homicide in the death of Jallen Shelter.
Greene County Sheriff’s deputies took Banks, 26 of Tuscaloosa into custody Saturday.
Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said deputies took Banks to jail without after it was determined Banks actions were a direct cause in the traffic death.
“He was taken into custody on a grand jury indictment for an accident that occurred on the (Jan.) 16,” Isaac said.
“A truck driver was killed when his truck was coming around a curve and he was forced to run off the road to avoid Banks.”
Banks was driving his car backwards on Highway 14 headed toward Greensboro when Shelter rounded the curve. Shelter was forced to run off the road to avoid Banks and was killed in the process. Isaac said because of the questionable manner Banks was using by backing up the road the jury charged him with negligent homicide.
“Because of his negligence the court ruled he was responsible for the death,” Isaac said.” He was backing up on a curve on 14. He had apparently changed his mind on where he wanted to go and backed up instead of going further down the road and turning around.”
Banks remains in jail where bond has been set for $10,000.
