McCain named publisher of Times

Joseph McCain, 32, has been named editor and publisher of The Demopolis Times, Marengo County Shoppers Guide, Clark County Shoppers Guide, Greene/Hale County Shoppers Guide, Wilcox Shoppers’ Guide and president of Boone Publications, L.L.C. He succeeds Jonathan McElvy who will be leaving to pursue other career interests.

McCain begins work in his new position today. He comes to Demopolis from Louisville, Miss., where he was editor and publisher of The Winston County Journal, The Choctaw Plaindealer, The Webster Progress-Times and Red Hills Shoppers’ Guide. Demopolis and Louisville are part of the Boone Newspapers, Inc. organization of Tuscaloosa.

McCain is a native of Eupora, Miss., and a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a degree in communication with an emphasis in journalism.

He has about 12 years of experience in various aspects of the newspaper industry.

“I am truly excited about becoming part of The Demopolis Times and working with the capable team at the newspaper” McCain said.

“The Demopolis Times and its shoppers have a long history of serving the people of West Alabama. I look forward to working with our team of people in continuing the tradition of publishing a quality community newspaper that accurately reflects the lives and interests of the people who live here.”

McElvy will remain with The Times for the next two months during a transition period.

“I’ve known and worked with Joseph for the past two years. He actually helped during our conversion to a daily newspaper and our purchase of the shoppers guides,” McElvy said. “Joseph will be an excellent fit in this community and I’m happy he’s received this opportunity.”

While in Louisville, McCain was active in civic affairs including Rotary Club and the Winston County Economic Development Partnership.
