Greene County, Sumter County bring home state titles

BIRMINGHAM – The Greene County Tigers defeated the Southside-Selma Panthers, 56-47, on Friday night to clinch the AHSAA 4A Boys State title.

Leading the way for Greene County was Curtis Nixon with 16 points and five rebounds.

Robert Jones chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds and Howard Crawford added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Panthers, Jeffery Anderson and Jermarcus Hardy led the team with 10 points each.

Anderson also added 11 rebounds and Travis Shine and Deontae Williams chipped in with eight points each.

For the game, Greene County shot 46.8 percent from the field (22-for-47) compared to 38.5 percent (20-for-52) for Southside-Selma.

The Tigers also outrebounded the Panthers 45-24.

In the AHSAA 3A Boys Championship, the Sumter County Wildcats beat the Central-Hayneville Lions 76-60 to clinch the title.

Leading the way for Sumter County was Larry Foster with 24 points and five rebounds.

LaKendrick Terrell added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats and Cordarro Law chipped in with 13 points.

For the Lions, Tremayne Moorer led the team with 26 points and five rebounds.

LaTravis Brazil contributed with 13 points, three rebounds and seven assists for Central-Hayneville.

In the game, Sumter County shot 52 percent from the field (26-for-50) compared to 42.6 percent (23-for-54) for Central-Hayneville.

The Wildcats also outrebounded the Lions 37-26 and Sumter County picked up 10 steals to the Lions nine.

Congratulations to both Greene County and Sumter County on winning the state title for the 4A and 3A boys.
