The Demopolis Tigers varsity baseball team picked up a 7-6 victory over Montgomery Academy yesterday afternoon in game one of the ‘Lake Martin Classic’ at the Alexander City SportsPlex.
Tyler Moody pitched the first five innings of the game, picking up a no decision before William Meador entered to relieve Moody for the final two innings.
Moody (1-0) pitched the final two innings of relief and picked up his first win of the season for DHS.
Leading the way offensively for DHS was Bart Pettus with a two-run double, Moody with a two-run double, and Colby Roberts with two suicide-squeezes, which plated two runs.
Although the Tigers escaped with a one-run victory, DHS struck out 16 times in the game.
“We just tried to pull off the ball,” DHS head coach James Moody said.
“We didn’t make any adjustments at the plate until late.
But they did find a way to battle back and win.”
With the victory, DHS moves to 8-4 overall on the season and continued action last night against Oxford in the ‘Lake Martin Classic.’
The Tigers will be back in action again today as they play at 10:00 a.m. before playing their next game of the day at 2:30 p.m.
Both games will be held at the Alexander City SportsPlex.
