Montgomery, here we come…DHS Lady Tigers sweep Elmore County

ECLECTIC – The Demopolis High School Lady Tigers varsity softball team entered this past weekend’s sub-state series with Elmore County on a high note and very confident of their ability to win close games.

And on Saturday afternoon, the girls did just that – sweeping Elmore County in two games to advance to Thursday’s state tournament in Montgomery.

DHS took game one 3-2 before beating Elmore County again in game two, 8-5.

With the sweep, DHS moves to 33-21 on the season and will advance to play Alexandria on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

In game one, Brittany McGee (22-7) picked up the win for the Lady Tigers, pitching a complete game while allowing only three hits, walking one, and striking out eight.

Leading the way offensively in game one for DHS was Brittany McGee, who had two hits, and Morgan Patterson, who had an RBI single.

In game two, Sara Davis (9-9) picked up the win for Demopolis in five innings of work, giving up six hits, walking none, and striking out three.

Hannah Taunton took both losses for Elmore County.

Leading the way offensively in game two for DHS was Dorothy Knapp, who had two hits and two RBI.

Also contributing for the Lady Tigers was Patterson, who had a two-RBI single and Brittany Thorne, who had one hit and two RBI.
