Yard sale to benefit Hale Habitat project

GREENSBORO–The “brand new” Hale County chapter of Habitat for Humanity is looking to make a difference, and they need your help.
The Hale chapter of Habitat, working in conjunction with the Hale County Housing Resource Center, is hosting a yard sale this Saturday at 1120 Market St in Greensboro, the block of Market between Main and North St. A wide variety of items will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going towards Habitat’s initial Hale County project.
“This is our first fund-raiser, and will go towards our first building,” says Kelley Sanders, director of the Hale Habitat chapter. “We’re hoping to have our first house built here in Hale County by October.”
To do that, though, Habitat will need several successful fund-raising efforts. Sanders admitted that although the initial deadline for donating items for the sale was Tuesday, May 31, they will now be accepting them at the Market St. location up until the time of the sale.
“We need more,” she said. “We’ll be taking things up until Friday.”
She said there had already been a number of interesting items submitted and that bargain-hunters would do well to pay a visit Saturday.
“There’ll be lots of furniture,” she said. “Also lots of clothes, and various other things.”
Sanders said a direct-mail fund-raiser and “other projects” would likely follow in the coming months as Habitat tries to put together a budget for the coming house-building. The location of the house has yet to be determined, she says.
Pam Door, director of the Hale County Housing Resource Center, says she’s thrilled to have Habitat on board and hopes the yard sale is a big success.
“We’re committed to better housing in Hale County, and this is one way to do that,” she says. “We’re glad Habitat has become one more partner we’ll use to help all of Hale County.”
