DEMOPOLIS-The City of Demopolis will have a full slate of events scheduled when the Fourth of July rolls around. Beginning at 7 p.m. the Demopolis City Landing will be very busy as the city’s annual Freedom on the River Celebration will kick off.
The events will begin with a Children’s Patriotic Parade at 7 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. Patriotic Ceremony. When the sun goes down the festival will hold its main event, which will be a fireworks display much like the Christmas on the River show.
Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce Events and Tourism Coordinator Kelley Smith said she anticipates another fun filled celebration.
“We are looking forward to another great year,” Smith said. “Our fireworks show for Christmas on the River received rave reviews and we will have the same company doing the show for Freedom on the River.”
The children’s parade is always a great source of entertainment. Smith said they are looking forward to another year of great participation and creative designs.
“We are also looking forward to our Children’s Patriotic Parade,” Smith said. “We are still looking for entries and we look forward to having a lot of children enter.”
Smith added there will be several prizes to hand out to children who decorate their bikes, tricycles and any other item they choose to travel on for the parade.
“We will have lots of prizes for them,” Smith said. “We encourage them to participate and hope it will be a lot of fun.”
All the afternoon events will take place at the Demopolis City Landing. For more information on the days events, or to enter the Children’s Patriotic Parade please call the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce at 334-289-0270.
