The Gilbertown Bass Club came north to hold its summer Open Bass Tournament at the Demopolis City Landing Saturday. Bass Club President Mike Thorn said he was very happy with how the club’s first Demopolis tournament played out, noting the terrific weather and a strong turnout.
“We had 38 boats entered,” he said, “so we’re proud of that.”
Winners of both the prize for biggest catch and first place overall were Demopolis’s Billy Wyatt and Lance Miller, who weighed in at 19 pounds 12 ounces total. Their prize-winning fish (which Wyatt said he planned to mount) tipped the scales at 8 pounds and 8-and-a-half ounces.
In second place were David Jenkins and Ken Waddell at 17 pounds and 7 ounces; third place, Charles Phillips and Billy Hearn, 12 and 15-and-a-half; fourth place, Kevin Williams and Sam Seale, 12 and 11-and-a-half; and in fifth, Wayne Langley and Greg McPherson, 12 and 10.
The Tournament was sponsored by the Gilbertown Bass Club, Sumter Timber Company, and KNK Logging.
