Curious children get visit from Curious Moon Circus

The Curious Moon Puppet Circus wrapped up the Funtastic Summer Reading program at the Demopolis Public Library.
Evy Wright, Curious Moon puppeteer, made the trip from Atlanta Thursday to play her role in the program.
“Get your books here,” she yelled in an announcers voice during a pretend intermission. “Balloon animals, puppets, clowns, and circus books. Get them here.”
Wright received much of her training from the Storybook Theatre in Oakland, California.
She has done puppetry for 13 years and has worked on the DC-Rom version of “Dinotopia” and “Muppets from Space.”
Wright and her partner Reay Kaplan began the female-owned and operated Curious Moon Puppet Theatre in 2000 after the two met at a puppet conference in 1998.
Wright and Kaplan make all of their puppets and Wright’s husband builds the sets.
Thursday, the children enjoyed appearances from “Boogie the Clown,” a dancing clown-puppet,
“The Flying Co weenies,” a puppet cow trio whose attempts to jump over the moon brought laughs to every audience member, and “The Feathered Fandangos,” two feathered friends who came to visit area children all the way from Finland – well, not really.
As an even better ending to the summer, children had the chance to take home prizes. A lucky few won Wal-Mart gift certificates. Others won books, balloon animals and toys.
Keep an eye out for future library fun at the Demopolis Public Library and for dates to register for the Funtastic Summer Reading Program of 2006.
