DEMOPOLIS-When it comes to servicing the community, the Demopolis Pilot Club goes above and beyond the call of duty.
The Demopolis Pilots are still taking orders for birthday calendars. The 2006 birthday calendars are $5 each with four free birthday or anniversary listings included. Any additional listings are $.50 each.
Plans are also in the making for the club’s annual fall spaghetti dinner.
The club also sponsors the local Anchor Club and fundraises for Camp ASCA, a special camp for children and adults with disabilities.
“We do a wide range of community projects,” Carolyn Roberson, fundraising coordinator, said. “We also work with the Marengo Activity Center.”
According to Roberson, the club also donates school supplies to Harriet House, has food drives during the Thanksgiving holiday, sends Christmas cards to residents at Partlow, and does service at Woodhaven.
“We go into schools and do Brainminders,” Roberson said. “We go over bike safety equipment and how to play safe.”
Roberson said the chapter also supports SAV-A-LIFE.
“Pilots puts me in touch with businesses in town, as well as individuals. We make a lot of friends,” she said. “We’re just a group of ladies giving back to the community.”
