The women’s auxiliary of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where the Rev. Calvin Johnson is pastor, is hosting its first Women’s Conference on August fifth and sixth.

Jackie Hoskins, member of Pleasant Grove and organizer of event, said she saw a need for guidance for women in the area.

Hoskins said she and other members visited a similar conference at Green Leaf Baptist Church and felt as though it would be beneficial to begin an annual conference in their community.

“It’ll be an opportunity to fellowship with one another and get financial, spiritual, and educational help,” she said.

The Conference begins at 6 p.m. Friday afternoon with a night of hospitality.

Hoskins said there will be refreshments, singing, and praising. There will also be a performance by the Pleasant Grove praise dancers and a late supper will be served.

Chances to win door prizes will also be given to guests. The night is planned to end at about 8 p.m.

Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., there will be speakers on education, the spiritual body, family health, finances, women in politics and many other topics. According to Hoskins, keynote speaker Minister Janice French, of William Chapel in Greensboro, will “summarize all the topics.”

Volada Paige Banks, Greensboro City Council member and member of Green Leaf, will serve as the Mistress of Order.

Hoskins said the Conference will be great for the spiritual as well as the physical.

“People should come enlighten themselves,” Hoskins said. “It’s a great opportunity to learn about things women can do outside of the home.”
