EUTAW-Boligee resident James Steven Pearson, 64, was arrested and charged with two counts of sodomy, second degree last Wednesday according to reports from the Greene County Sheriff Department.

The alleged incident has prompted a widespread search for evidence and a thorough investigation. Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said the age of the alleged victim in this case had also caused a lot of concern. Isaac said Pearson had employed the young man when the incident was said to have happened on two separate occasions.

“There was a 12 year old male juvenile involved in the case,” Isaac said. “The young man was employed there and was doing some work for him when this occurred. He was just doing some work around with him.”

Isaac said after the second incident was reported to have happened the young man went to his parents who were greatly concerned. Isaac said they made contact with him and filed charges.

“The child told his parents,” Isaac said. “After that they called us and filed the report.”

The young man has undergone investigations that have led authorities to believe something did happen. Isaac said there was no DNA evidence at this time, but medical personnel had given them reason to believe there was an incident.

“We don’t have any DNA evidence at this time,” Isaac said. “The child has been checked at DCH and they said something had happened. He has been checked out.”

Isaac said the Department of Human Resources would also be involved in the investigation. Isaac said they are also looking into the possibilities of other witnesses and victims.

Pearson remains in the county jail and no bond has been set. Isaac said if he is convicted, he could face anywhere from two to 20 years in prison.
