A life of experience celebrated

Etowah County native Goldie Daniel celebrated her 88th birthday on Tuesday, and she is one woman who has truly lived life.
Daniel was born and raised atop Sand Mountain, living on a road her grandfather built. She worked on a farm, picking cotton and corn, until she was 22 years old, and then spent 29 years working in a cotton mill.
Born during World War I, Daniel saw her share of wars. One of her clearest memories is of the men coming back from World War II. Some of her own nephews were actually POWs during WWII.
Daniel was one of 13 children and is the only one remaining. She is twice-widowed, and has one daughter, Shelby Sherwood, who lives here in Demopolis with her husband Ken. She also has three step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
After 88 years of life experience, Daniel has only two words to pass on to future generations: “Be honest.”
