HALE COUNTY-Due to a surprise visit from Katrina Monday night’s Hale County town hall was cancelled.

Jeremy Sherer, Congressman Artur Davis’ special projects coordinator, said setting another date may be hard since Davis is going back into session next week.

“We are going to try to reschedule. We are looking at dates,” Sherer said. “It might be September or October before we can do it.”

According to Sherer the town hall will be an opportunity for citizens to ask a wide range of questions about local, state and national issues.

“Congressman Davis will brief the citizens on current events in the office,” he said. “Then after that whoever is in attendance can ask questions. It’s fair game.”

According to a press release, Davis said “Katrina was the most devastating storm in the Southeast within the last 20 years.”

Davis said two deaths had been reported in the entire state as of Monday.

“At this point, many of the roads in the most damaged counties in my district are blocked or otherwise not navigable,” Davis said. “My office is attempting to determine the full extent of damage in the Black Belt and in Tuscaloosa and whether additional federal assistance can be obtained.”
