DEMOPOLIS-The Demopolis Area Habitat for Humanity will hold their second volunteer orientation this morning at 10 a.m. at Bryan Whitfield Hospital.

Lindsy Gardner, who is helping organize this years Habitat. Said in their orientation they will give volunteers a rundown of what they expect.

“What we will do is talk about the mission of Habitat and let them know how it works,” Gardner said. “We will talk about safety on the construction site and we will pass out forms for them to fill out if they are interested.”

Gardner said there is a misconception about what they need from their volunteers. She said they are not asking people to do everything themselves, they just want them to chip in.

“I think in some cases people think they are volunteering to build an entire house and that is not the case,” Gardner said. “People will be able to choose what they want to do and which days they can help out.”

Gardner added the commitment is very short. She said they are only asking workers to volunteer a few Saturdays to a good cause.

“We are really only asking them to work about two or three Saturdays over the next months,” Gardner said. “We will ask them to do specific things as well rather than try to do everything.”

At Wednesday’s orientation, Gardner said they had a good turnout. However, she said they need as much help as they can get.

“We had about 25 people,” Gardner said. “It was a pretty good turnout. Of course, we will need a lot of people.”

Gardner also said if businesses or organizations would like to become involved they can contact her and they will try to set up an on site orientation.
