Haydel named publisher of The Demopolis Times

Sheila Haydel has been named president of Boone Publications, Inc., and publisher of The Demopolis Times and its affiliated publications, the Clarke County Shoppers Guide, the Marengo County Shoppers Guide, the Greene/Hale County Shoppers Guide and the Wilcox County Shoppers Guide. She succeeds Joseph McCain, who resigned to return to his hometown.

She began work Monday, spending the day getting settled into her new job.

Haydel, a native of Dothan, brings 20 years of newspaper experience to The Times.

She comes to Demopolis from Birmingham, where she most recently was general manager of the Classified Advertising Network.

She began her career as a sales consultant at a weekly newspaper in Dothan, and later worked as a sales consultant for The Dothan Eagle, a daily paper in Dothan.

She served as classified advertising manager in Dothan, where she managed a classified call center that represented three daily paid publications, three free weekly publications and one free weekly tabloid.

Haydel said she has worked the big city and small community papers and is excited about returning to the small community atmosphere.

“I am excited about becoming a part of Demopolis community and working with the capable staff at The Times,” she said. “I began my newspaper career at a community newspaper and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work in that community environment again.”

“The Times has a long history of serving the people of the Black Belt region, and I look forward to working with the staff of The Times to continue that tradition of excellence,” she said.

Haydel and her husband, Edward, are the parents of Emily and Spencer, both of whom are attending college. Her interests include reading, gardening and sports.
