Sumter drops WAP to 0-4

The Sumter Academy Eagles leveled their record at 2-2 with a 38-14 win Friday over the struggling West Alabama Prep Titans.
Matt Boler opened the scoring with 10:20 remaining in the first quarter with a 45-yard touchdown run. Boler would add a second in the first half, and along with a 20-yard scoring run from Hunter Spidle, a 5-yard run from Joseph Reed, and a 31-yard TD pass from Spidle to Caine Conway with 3:58 remaining in the half, Sumter would go in at the break up 31-0.
Boler would add his third score of the night in the third quarter to put Sumter up 38-0 before the Titans fought back with their second and third touchdowns of the season. Greg Yelverton slammed in from six yards out in the third, and Samuels finished the scoring by breaking loose for a 62-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
For the night, Boler would finish with 143 yards on only 9 carries and the three scores. Spidle finished the night a perfect 4 of 4 in the air for 88 yards and the touchdown to Conway.
Samuels was the statistical star for the Titans, gaining 102 yards and the TD on 8 carries. WAP head coach Marshall Murphy also praised the play of freshman quarterback Andrew Snipes, making his second start for the Titans.
Sumter will go on the road next week to face Central while WAP will square off against South Choctaw in Demopolis.
