One West Alabama Preparatory student spent the weekend in Mississippi with a group from Linden Baptist Church providing aid to those who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.
WAP sophomore Tyler Baker said it felt really good to be able to help. During their time there, Baker and fellow Linden Baptist volunteers unloaded an 18-wheeler full of water, canned foods and bread.
Baker said they also removed debris from storm-ravished homes and patched roofs in residential neighborhoods.
“I had never seen any place with that much damage,” Baker said. He also noted that there was more damage in areas where homes were close together.
“Trees and power lines were down everywhere,” he said.
Baker and others from Linden Baptist hope to plan another trip to more affected areas in the near future.
