It’s official: the Demopolis High volleyball team is on a roll.

Two more victories, Thursday Sept. 29 on the road against the Choctaw Co. Tigers and at home against Choctaw a second time Tuesday, has propelled the Tigers to a 7-2 record and a six-match winning streak.

The Tigers swept through both best-of-five matches against Choctaw, winning three-games-to-none in both. DHS has now won 13 of their last 14 games, a streak spanning their last five matches

Tuesday the Tigers came out at home and took Game 1 in emphatic fashion, using a barrage of service aces from Shawnese Armstead to bury the visitors from Butler 25-9. Better play from Choctaw Co. saw them come closer in Game 2, but the Tigers were again too much for them and took Game 2 25-17.

Service from Leann Andrews got DHS off to a good start in Game 3 as well as the Tigers took an early 4-2 lead. But Demopolis seemed to lose a bit of focus and Choctaw started putting together a run. With DHS down 21-17, coach Tammy Thrasher substituted starters Sara Davis and Alex Ward back into the game. The move paid immediate dividends as a Davis kill brought Demopolis to 22-21. With good serves from Ashley Charleston the Tigers roared back to win the last eight points of the game and sweep the match 25-21.

DHS will try to keep the momentum going against much tougher competition when the Tigers take on Thomasville and Clark Co. in a tri-match meet Thursday. The area tourney is now less than two weeks away, beginning Oct. 17.
