DEMOPOLIS-The votes are in and Demopolis High School’s 2005 Homecoming Queen is Gabby Rivas.
Rivas was crowned at last night’s homecoming celebration, which included a pep rally and bonfire. Rivas said the honor caught her off guard.
“I was very surprised,” Rivas said. “It is very exciting.”
Rivas said she also took great pride in representing Demopolis High.
“I was really honored,” Rivas said. “It really is an honor to represent my school.”
Throughout the week the students, faculty and staff have put a lot of work into making sure everything was just right. Dr. Isaac Espy, principal of Demopolis high School, said the week has been a lot of hard work, but they have also had lots of time for fun.
“It has been a lot of fun,” Espy said. “The kids have worked well together putting the floats together and that is what it’s all about.”
Espy said he has been very impressed with the creativity of the students and the leadership roles many have taken.
“They designed them and their leaders have taken charge,” Espy said. “It has really been a lot of fun. We have even had a little school over here in between.”
The celebration will come to a close today with a 1 p.m. parade through town and a pre-game ceremony at the stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m. The homecoming game with Jemison will kickoff at 7 p.m.
