Despite perhaps the best effort of the season by the West Alabama Prep Titans, the Dixie Academy Rebels spoiled homecoming for the Titans,

whipping them 34-0 in Demopolis Friday night.

Greg Yelverton led the Titans offensively, rushing for 75 yards on 18 carries, but it was not enough to get the Titans on the board.

Dixie got things going early against the Titans, driving 73 yards for the game’s first score.

Chris Sutton’s run around left end from 8 yards gave the Rebels a 6-0 lead with 10:11 remaining in the first quarter.

The Titans opened offensively on the ground, primarily utilizing Yelverton and fullback Wesley White, and picked up a couple first downs.

The drive, however, stalled out after the Titans got into Rebel territory, and WAP was forced to punt.

Both defenses held firm throughout most of the first half, at least until 4:10 remaining in the half.

While Dixie had a long drive from Lewisville to play against the Titans, they would not have to drive the football far on their next possession.

Following a punt return to the WAP 20 yard line, Dixie needed 4 plays to reach paydirt.

QB Nevin Watkins connected with WR Justin Wilson on a slant route for the 8-yard throw and catch, while Mike Strickland added the PAT to give Dixie the 13-0 lead.

The Titans were unable to get the ball out from their own territory on their next possession, giving Dixie the ball on the WAP 30 yard line.

Two plays later, Dixie added another score on John Ecker’s 2-yard plunge with :17 seconds remaining in the half.

Dixie added two scores in the third quarter.

First, with 6:13 on the clock, Strickland caught a Watkins pass behind the Titan defense for a 15-yard touchdown.

Then, Bradley Metcalf capped the scoring with a 3-yard run with 2:42 remaining.

Following Strickland’s PAT, Dixie led by a comfortable margin, 34-0.

The Titans will end their season next Friday night, traveling to Montevallo to take on the Shelby Academy Raiders.

Game time is 7:30.
