Businesswoman of the Year to be named Thursday

DEMOPOLIS-Thursday night the Demopolis Chapter of the Business and Professional Women will name their Businesswoman of the Year as part of a special ceremony to celebrate National Businesswoman’s Week.
Virginia Norman, who is helping organize the event, said the ceremony would take place Thursday evening.
“We will hold our meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at The Foscue House,” Norman said. “At the meeting we will have a dinner, which will be Dutch treat and the winner will be recognized.”
Since 1928 Business and Professional Women/USA (BPW/USA) has sponsored National Business Women’s Week. Each year during the third week of October BPW/USA, its State Federations, local organizations and the business community as a whole that the opportunity to acknowledge the accomplishments of workingwomen.
Over the years, National Business Women’s Week has become an event widely recognized by public and private institutions and local communities. In the past, the President of the United States, at the request of BPW/USA, has declared the third full business week in October as National Business Women’s Week. On state and local levels, governors and mayors issue similar proclamations.
Norman said though the week was celebrated last week they decided to hold their awards ceremony until this Thursday.
