GREENE COUNTY-Greene County authorities are in the process of investigating two serious crimes from last week involving an automobile theft and gunshots.
Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac said authorities were alerted last Thursday when a Eutaw man reported gunshots fired into his vehicle on a Greene County Road.
Isaac said Ronald Daniels called authorities when he was driving down the road and his car was struck by shots from the woods.
“He stated he was in the Mt. Hebron community and someone fired into his vehicle,” Isaac said. “He said he knew the guy, but there was another one he did not know and as he was going down the road one of them shot into his vehicle.”
Isaac said when Daniels took a closer look he discovered multiple gunshots in the car.
“He said he pulled over down the road and saw that his back window was shattered,” Isaac said. “He said be drove on down to the store and got out and looked and that is when he noticed gunshots in the vehicle.”
Isaac said the case is still under investigation.
One day prior to the gunshots the department found themselves investigating a familiar crime. For the third week in a row deputies were called to investigate an auto theft. Tushema Mobley of Mt. Hebron alerted the department Wednesday her automobile had been stolen while she was out of town.
“She stated that she was away from home and when she returned to her residence her vehicle was no longer there,” Isaac said. “There is no suspect in the case so far.”
Isaac said the vehicle was a 2000 Hyundai valued at $15,000 and has not been recovered. The case remains under investigation.
