PERRY COUNTY – Clarence Melton, 82, was found dead off of Route 6 Friday afternoon when a resident noticed his four-wheeler’s headlights in the distance, authorities said.

According to Perry County Sheriff James Hood, it is believed that Melton lost control of his four-wheeler and drove off the road where the vehicle flipped over on him.

Sheriff reports say a local resident was pulling out of their driveway when they noticed the vehicle’s lights.

“When they went down there to see what it was, they found Mr. Melton,” Hood said.

Hood said Melton was last seen at about 2 p.m. that afternoon and the department was informed at about 5 p.m.

According to authorities, Melton is known in his neighborhood for riding his four-wheeler.

“He’s been riding that thing for years,” a Perry County Deputy said. “When they hear the four-wheeler they know it’s Mr. Melton.”
