Representative Ralph Howard, in conjunction with the Alabama Farmers Market Authority, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System of Auburn University and the Alabama Fruit&Vegetable Growers Association, has created a greenhouse project, which he hopes will put Black Belt farmers on the map.

If residents are interested in starting a greenhouse of their own, a one-day workshop is planned for December 14 at the Alabama Power Company Building in the Clanton Conference Center, 2030 Seventh Street South, to answer questions about greenhouse construction, marketing opportunities and tomato production.

Workshop registration forms can be picked up at area courthouses or by contacting Dr, Joe Kemble from Auburn University’s Department of Horticulture at (334) 844-3050 by December 1.

The cost is $5.00 per person and is payable in cash at the door. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Howard hopes residents will take advantage of the opportunity to put the Black Belt in the fresh produce spotlight.
