U.S. 43 bridge accident injures two

DEMOPOLIS-A mid morning accident on the Black Warrior Bridge on U.S. Highway 43 left two people injured and multiple cars stuck in traffic.

According to Alabama State Troopers reports, three vehicles were involved in a collision at the top of the bridge.

Carlton Edwards, of Detroit and Harper Price, of Boligee both sustained minor injuries and were transported to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. Their status was not available at press time, though both were expected to recover from their injuries.

Edwards, who was driving a 2001 Peterbilt and Price, who was driving a 92 Chevrolet collided with a third driver, Jimmy Irving. Irving, who was driving a 2000 Windstar, was not injured.

The accident brought traffic to a stop for almost an hour before it was reduced to one lane to allow motorists to pass the wreckage.

The Demopolis Police Department, Tombigbee Emergency Medical Services and Alabama State Troopers all responded to the scene.

According to the trooper post at Selma, the accident remains under investigation.
