Raider boys split weekend games; Lady Raiders go 2-0

The Greensboro varsity boys split a pair of weekend match-ups while the Lady Raiders recorded back-to-back victories last Friday and Saturday nights.

Varsity Boys: Greensboro 66, Jemison 36

Greensboro claimed an easy win in their first area game of the season Friday night over the visiting Panthers.

11 different players scored for the Raiders in the win: Ivory White with 19, Michael Wiggins with 12, Calvin Skipper with 7, Kendrick Tabb with 6, Cedric Harris with 5, Lloyd Hambright with 5, Kendrick Tabb with 6, DeMarquelle Tabb with 4, Jonathan Long with 3, David Tubbs with 2, Kiara Paige with 2, and Travis Harris with 1.

White also led the Raiders in rebounding with 12 boards, while DeMarquelle Tabb gathered in 10.

Sunshine 59, Greensboro 50

Saturday in Newbern, Sunshine used a balanced offensive attack to defeat their in-county rivals for the first time in three tries this season.

Four different Tigers finished in double figures: Justin Wagner, with 15, Darmekus Lewis with 12, Reako Long with 12, and Royce Hamilton with 11.

Greensboro was led again by White, who finished with 12 points. Wiggins scored 10, followed by Kendrick Tabb with 9, Hambright with 8, Harris with 4, Paige with 3, and Tubbs with 2.

The loss drops Greensboro to 3-4 on the season while Sunshine picked up their second victory in as many nights after Friday night’s win over John Essex. Both teams will next be in action this Friday, when Sunshine takes on Akron at home and Greensboro hosts Bibb Co.

Varsity Girls: Greensboro 84, Jemison 34

Shondrelle Tabb had a huge night as the Lady Raiders had no trouble defeating Jemison.

Tabb finished with 29 points to lead all scorers. She was followed by Karla Johnson with 18, Jaques Wynn with 12, Britney Skipper with 7, Vanessa Rhodes with 6, LaTara Claudette with 4, Shamia Cotrelle with 4, and Sabrina Hurns with 4.

Greensboro 60, Sunshine 51

The Lady Raiders overcame a big game from the Lady Tigers’ leading scorer Francesca Bates to post their second victory in two nights.

Bates scored a game-high 22 in the losing effort. Tabb led Greensboro again with 19. Johnson scored 10, Hurns 8, Wynn 7, Rhodes 5, Claudette 5, Ashton Tinker 2, and Alesha Marsh 2.

JV Boys: Greensboro 37, Sunshine 21

Greensboro’s B-team recorded a 16-point win on the road Saturday.

Dontae Reeves led the Raiders with 15, followed by Barry Ward with 8, Demarkis Tubbs with 4, Davinelle Fields with 2, Deondre King with 2, Ladarius Owens with 2, LaQuincy Bragg with 2, and Darrell Johnson with 1.

Sunshine was led by Quinton Jones with 13.
