Since the announcement was made that Demopolis was getting a Wal-Mart Supercenter people have been waiting patiently. This week, their wait got a little shorter.

The store, which was originally set to open Wednesday, Jan. 25, announced Tuesday the doors would open to the public on Monday Jan. 23.

Demopolis Wal-Mart manager John Whitehead said the new Supercenter would open its doors bright and early.

“We are going to open up Monday at 7 a.m. and we are going to stay open until 12 p.m. Tuesday,” Whitehead said. “After that, we are going to reopen Wednesday at 7 a.m. and have our grand opening just as we had planned and stay open for 24 hours.”

The decision to open the store came after the move went faster than everyone expected.

“Normally, it takes about five and a half weeks to open a store,” Whitehead said. “But we had some extra time and we were ahead of schedule to so the corporate office decided to open early.”

Prior to the store’s Monday opening, they will host a social appreciation night Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

During Wednesday’s grand opening, the Supercenter will be joined by another Demopolis business. Cato will officially relocate its store in Demopolis and is scheduled to open Wednesday Jan. 25.
