Spring is almost here and if you’ve had a sudden urge to sing somewhere else besides the shower, the Demopolis Singers is giving you the opportunity.
The Singers will begin rehearsal for its spring concert Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. and membership is open once again.
“If you enjoy singing music, then I hope you join us,” Singers director James Galloway said. “It’s not necessary for you to be a ‘polished’ singer either. For the most part, you just have to enjoy singing.”
Last year, there were approximately 40 members in the group, but this year Galloway is hoping to expand the performance choir to more than 50.
Galloway said the theme for this year’s concert is “Music of the South” and the show will incorporate all types of music.
“We will sing some spiritual, gospel, blues, rock ‘n’ roll, jazz and some of everything,” Galloway said. “It’s going to me an interesting concert.”
The program will include selections such as “Get on Board Little Children,” “I’ll Fly Away,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Ragtime,” “Down to the River to Pray,” and “A Tribute to Ray Charles,” as well as a variety of others.
The group is set to rehearse every Monday from 6 p.m. until about 8 p.m. in the Parish Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Galloway invites singers of all levels to join the local entertainers.
