Demopolis High School Assistant Principal Booker T. Barlow Jr. was arrested Tuesday night on charges of driving under the influence following an accident on U.S. Highway 80.

According to police reports, the accident occurred at 9:21 p.m. Tuesday might when Barlow’s 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck, which was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 80 in the eastbound lane, struck two other vehicles head on.

The other vehicles involved in the accident were a 2004 Peterbilt truck, driven by Michael Warren of Uniontown and another Peterbilt truck driven by Charles Black Jr. of Faundsdale. No injuries were reported at the time of the accident.

Barlow, 59, was arrested on the scene and taken to the Marengo County Correctional facility.

Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Wesley Hill said the board would examine the details of the accident before taking any action.

“We really don’t know all the details right now,” Hill said. “When I talked to him, he was still in the hospital. We will go through it when he comes back.”

One of the truck drivers said they had listened to reports of Barlow’s approach on their CB radios, as other truck drivers moving west shadowed him to warn oncoming drivers.

Shortly after entering the Demopolis city limits, Barlow crossed paths with Warren and Black. They tried to change lanes and avoid the collision, but the truck driver said Barlow swerved back into their paths.
