She has studied Japanese and lived in Tokyo and studied Chinese while living in Shanghai.

While attending Montevallo, she also spent a summer studying at Harvard University.

Franklin’s zeal for research and reporting were the qualities that convinced Managing Editor David Goodwin that she was right for the job.

“Not many people can say they actually enjoy doing research,” Goodwin said. “But from our first conversation, Elizabeth made it clear she loved learning, and that’s what a reporter’s job is all about.”

Times Publisher Sheila Haydel said Franklin impressed her by demonstrating why she’d make a great fit for the Demopolis community.

“When I first met Elizabeth, I was immediately intrigued with her enthusiasm and desire to become a reporter,” Times Publisher Sheila Haydel said. “I felt Elizabeth brings with her a genuine desire to reach out to the community and cover the events that make this area such a wonderful place to live.”
