On Tuesday, March 6, police received reports of a rape on Reed Drive in Demopolis.
However, since the case involves a juvenile female, details of the incident are not available. But Demopolis Police chief Jeff Manuel assures the community that he and his force are working hard on the case.
“We do have a suspect,” Manuel said, “and we are actively investigating the case.”
If convicted, the suspect faces charges of first-degree rape.
Police are also looking for details on a burglary at Demopolis’ Dollar General.
At approximately 7:30 Saturday morning, the department received a call from store employees reporting a break in.
“Upon arrival, officers found the front door of the store shattered,” Manuel said. “Once they entered the building, they observed a brick that was used to shatter the door window.”
After throwing the brick through the door, Manuel said, the criminal(s) did not take anything from the building.
According to police reports, no money or merchandise was reported missing at the time of the report.
“It’s considered burglary because something entered the building,” Manuel said, “but the case is under investigation.”
Although nothing was taken from the store, the criminal(s) face possible charges of third-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief if caught and convicted of the crime.
