The Demopolis Dixie Youth 11-12 year old All-Stars have played some very good ball this season and are now reaping the rewards.

They have earned the right to play in the Alabama State Championship in Montgomery.

This team will face some of the hardest competition they have faced all year.

“All the teams in this tournament are very good and everyone of them is able to walk out of Montgomery with the crown,” Head Coach Mark Hasty said.

They will play 11 other teams in the tournament including Alexandria, Glencoe, AUM Gold, Montgomery American, Headland, South Bibb County, Citronelle, Clanton, and many other teams from around the state.

The Demopolis team advanced to Montgomery by going 4-0 in Sub-District play in Livingston and then going 3-2 in Clanton in the District play.

They won their first game of the District Tournament by beating Monroe 7-2.

Their next opponent was Thomasville, whom they lost to 3-1, but they played them again and won 1-0.

Chase Cameron pitched a complete game, six innings shutout to earn the win.

Demopolis then played Clanton and won 7-6 on a walk-off homerun by Taylor Polk.

Clanton would have their revenge on Demopolis beating them in the Championship 4-1.

“If we continue to play the way we were during the last two tournaments we should do fine,” “We have strength in our pitching staff and hitting,” Hasty said.

During the last tournament, Cameron has pitched 22 innings and only allowed 2 earned runs.

They play their first game on Saturday against Alexandria, but before that on Friday, they will go to a Montgomery Biscuits game.
