DEMOPOLIS – Alabama’s first ever tax-free weekend has officially come and gone and parents loaded their children into the car for three afternoons of back-to-school shopping.

However, parents may need to brace themselves for the trends that are in style this year.

For the most part, things are the same, but local fashionistas and fashionistos were willing to dish on what’s “cool” this fall.

For guys, they can wear the styles from this past school year, plus or minus a few new items.

“It’s the same as last year, polo shirts, flip flops and ripped jeans,” Demopolis High School student Markelle Smith said. “Ripped clothes are the new fad this year.”

And for guys who don’t prefer the Ralph Lauren look, baggy t-shirts, jeans and clean sneakers are always in style for the urban look.

As for young ladies, DHS student Alyxshae Lomax said you can’t go wrong with Aeropastle and Old Navy for back-to-school gear.

Coordinate your graphic tees and polos, with jeans and a nice pair of shoes.

“New Balances are in, or Wallabees,” Lomax said.

Whatever your style, be sure to find it soon during the state’s tax-free weekend. And be sure to check local thrift stores and Salvation Army shops for the vintage look, which is making a comeback for the umpteenth time.
