Beverly Jones of Eutaw will start her coaching career at Demopolis High School as its new volleyball coach.

“I’m the new JROTC instructor here at the school and no one wanted to accept the challenge,” said Jones.

“And I’ve always wanted to coach volleyball, because I love the sport.

“It’s a great opportunity for me.”

Coach Jones’ volleyball experience comes while serving in the U.S Army.

She played on teams in Germany, California, and Fort Bragg, Ga.

Even though there are 25 players vying for 20 positions, Coach Jones vows to keep everyone on the roster to work on their potential.

She will be looking for determination and dedication as the factors that decides who will be part of the top 20 players to wear the blue and white of Demopolis High School this season.

After one day of practice and the start of the season a little more than a week away, the anxiety and excitement shows on the faces of the team.

“I see a lot of potential and a lot of experience from last year and I plan to tap into that,” added Coach Jones.

The Lady Tigers are looking to return to post season play this season.

Jones philosophy is that education comes first sports comes second.

She will also monitor and keep track of her Lady Tigers progress in the classroom and on the court.

“If it’s not happening in the class room it won’t be happening on the court,” remarked Jones.

The first-year coach has also set the lofty goal of making volleyball in Demopolis as noticeable as football. “Volleyball is on the rise,” she said with a big grin. With the returning players on the roster, Coach Jones should have enough ‘ammo’ to extend the regular season.
