Travelers were caught in traffic moments before the brief thunderstorm began yesterday due to an afternoon accident on Highway 43.

At approximately 4 p.m. Demopolis police responded to an emergency call on the state highway heading toward Linden, however officials are still unsure about details of the accident.

“It seems as though it was a misjudgment when it came to location and this car hit the other one in the rear,” Demopolis Sgt. Tommy Johnson said about the burgundy Ford Taurus that smashed into the rear of a GMC Jimmy. “Two people were transported to Bryan Whitfield but I can’t tell how hurt they are right now.”

As of press time, police believed the Taurus was turning left out of the Pure gas station parking lot when it rear ended the back end of the Jimmy, sending the truck spiraling into a yard on Highway 43 and barely missing a large tree.

Details the accident and the victims’ names have yet to be released.
