Four of six leaders in two categories reach five-fish limit for day

Day one of the three-day Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Tournament was completed yesterday evening. The event is one of eight regional tournaments that are part of the Bass Fishing League.

Of the 129 registered boaters and 129 co-anglers in this event, 100 boaters and 81 co-anglers weighed in yesterday.

Friday&8217;s best finishers in the Boaters Division was Charlie Jones, of Jackson, Tenn., with five fish, which is the limit, weighing in at 11lbs 4oz; Randall Tharp, Gardendale, five fish, 11lbs, 3oz; and Bryan Gregory, Fort Payne, five fish, 11lbs, 2oz.

In the Co-Anglers Division the top three was Jason Ezell of Lucedale, Miss, four fish, 9lbs, 1oz, Anthony Hunt, Hollandale Beach, Fl., five fish, 8lbs, 11oz; Joshua Hartley, Jasper, three fish, 7lbs, 9oz.

After today&8217;s weigh-in, the top six finishers in the Boaters Division and the top six in the Co-Anglers Division will compete or fish tomorrow, which is the final day of the event. Tomorrow&8217;s weigh-in will be conducted at 4 p.m. at Wal-Mart.

The weigh-ins will be conducted at the end of each day. Today&8217;s weigh-ins are at the Demopolis City Landing beginning at 3 p.m. All weigh-ins will be cumulative.

The top prize in the Boaters Division is a $60,000 package that includes a new Chevy towing truck and a Ranger 519VX powered by Evinrude or Yamaha.

The winner in the Co-Angler Division will receive a $40,000 prize package.

The six top finishers in each division automatically advance to the All-American championship and will fish for as much as $140,000 in prizes in the Boaters Division and $70,000 in prizes in the Co-Anglers Division.

Also the best seven to 24 finishers of this event will be issued a cash prize.

In addition to this tournament, the League sponsors 140 qualifying events divided into 28 divisions with 400 anglers per event as well as the BFL All-American championship with 96 anglers. The cash purses range from $45,000 to $1 million.
