If you have a car that no longer serves

its purpose, you better hide it because the Greensboro City Council gave word to Chief Hamilton and his force to keep an eye out for “inoperable vehicles” at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Owners of dysfunctional automobiles will be asked to get rid of their junk cars, and Greensboro police have to keep record of how many conked-out

cars they find in the city.

Council members also agreed to give the small portion of land between Barnett Furniture and El Tenampa to Dairy Fresh since it hasn’t been used since the early 1900s.

Councilwoman Valada Paige Banks informed residents the abatement board was effective once again and urged them to report any property that needs

to be taken care of to their attention.

Although the exact meeting days have yet to be set for the board, city clerk Lorrie Cook said they hope to meet every third Tuesday morning at 10, but until then, meetings will be posted in the Greensboro City Hall.

A representative from Sentell Engineering will be in town to complete the final inspection on the UNA Martin Leisure Park within the next few days and council members , and residents, were urged to take a look and report any suggested changes.

Although the city paid more than $40,000 in bills, Cook said they are still “on schedule for the revenue coming in,” and the council accepted the proposed budget for the first sixth months of 2006.

also invited area business owners and those interested in beginning commerce opportunities

to come out at 6 p.m. on May 25 to get information on low-interest loans.

The next Greensboro

City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, due to a conference

council members will attend

on May 9.
