It was more like a casual gathering rather than a business meeting at Greensboro’s Tuesday night city council meeting.

With an empty agenda, no new business was introduced and informal talks of old business items were carried out.

Council members accepted minutes from their previous meeting and brief workshop, and agreed to pay $10,689.82 worth of bills.

“They are still working on the final maps for the annexation,” city clerk Lorrie Cook said about the Greensboro’s plans to add to city limits, “We are still looking at the two-week period they initially gave us.”

Before the next meeting, council members will attend a workshop to discuss the final annexation maps and a possible solution for after-school traffic problems at Greensboro West Elementary School.

“We have to contact the school board to talk about what time would be good for them to meet before we do anything,” mayor J.B. Washington said.

Washington also told the council about his participation in Monday’s Black Belt Mayor’s Conference held in York.

“I attended the Mayor’s Conference and I talked to someone about possibly holding a seminar in Hale County about funding for local businesses,” Washington said. “It would be a workshop for anyone that is interested in coming and owners of new and existing businesses.”

The seminar, if held, would provide information on obtaining low-interest loans for Hale County business owners.

As for the overall conference, Washington said he enjoyed learning in the presence of other area leaders.

“It was very informative,” he said. “I missed the last one, so I definitely wanted to go to this one. I always try to make all that I can.”

The next Greensboro city council meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28, at 6 p.m. in City Hall.
